ANDROID APP

Healthcare Companion App

The idea for a healthcare companion app came from many discoveries from research about the users from previous months. We knew people were searching for doctors for existing conditions, symptoms, health checks, and things like replacing a doctor because of a move. During all the research a specific user type started to emerge from previous journey maps that were completed. Behind the seemingly simple behavior of simply looking for a physician, there were underlying activities that were being performed by our users that we did not fully understand. We started calling this user, the Family Healthcare Manager.

The manager performed many tasks related to getting healthcare for themselves, family and friend. Additional research was completed to gain more insights about their activities. What we discovered was that these people were extremely busy and some overwhelmed by their responsibilities. We found our calling… we wanted to do something for these users, so the idea of an app that can help them plan, organize, set appointments, build health teams, learn about conditions was born.

Role: Lead UX/UI and UXR

Lead UX designer as well as additional role in product development to create the first healthcare and wellness companion app to provide a proactive and anticipatory UX. The new app will help the user manage the overall care and wellness of their entire family while keeping them active with their long term health goals. Using a system of conversations and predictions around the users needs, the UX will provide the healthcare manager with the tools needed to stay organized and proactive with their family’s needs.

Concept Development

Using the knowledge learned from mapping the experience of a family healthcare manager we proceeded to develop ideas in line with the needs of the healthcare manager in order to determine where as a company we would be able to provide assistance as a healthcare companion. The ideation process was a long process involving a whole design and engineering team to tackle such a large project. Over many weeks we created a strategy from the point of view of a healthcare manager. We focused on how to address their needs in healthcare and how we would build the right kind of experience from that POV.

User Flow Diagrams

The family health manager has a very busy lifestyle managing their family health as well as taking care of themselves. We needed to design a user flow that allows the user to navigate naturally as well as learning user preferences and needs to anticipate how and when the app is able to help.

Conversation Studies

Models around specific core conversations between the user and the app are mapped out to determine the direction and goals of each one that takes place. We also had to determine which, when  and how conversations take place between a user and AI within the system. Conversations were designed to serve multiple facets around the users needs that include: building a team of doctors, setting appointments, recommending medical screenings, information about conditions, local health events and content.

Prototypes

Various protoypes were built along the design process starting with wireframe prototypes to a full prototype. At each step UX and UI were tested against known demographics that fit the persona of the family health manager.
